PHOENIX, AZ – A new film festival in the Valley is celebrating fashion storytelling. Festival organizers are encouraging filmmakers from around the world to submit their films to be screened for audiences at Phoenix Art Museum on Sept. 5, 2020.

Mignon Gould, the founder and executive director, says that the focus of the festival is to spotlight the role fashion plays in film. “Fashion can be a compelling narrative when words alone don’t tell the complete story,” Gould says. “We are excited for a diverse range of filmmakers and costume designers to showcase their work.”

Gould has invited local creatives Jeanne Hankerson, a fashion designer and owner of SJ Couture and Amelia Walsh, founder of The Marry Mart, to help organize the inaugural FashFilmFete. Films across a variety of genres will be accepted, and can be either short or feature-length, but fashion must make a significant impact in the storytelling. Early bird submission deadline is Feb. 21, 2020.

Awards will be given in categories of Best Feature, Best Documentary, Best Short, Best Commercial or Music Video, Best Costume and Best Makeup. The festival will also accept submissions from fashion influencers creating cutting-edge, sartorially centered lifestyle films as part of the short film and commercial categories.

The link to submit entries can be found, along with more information about entry rules and requirements, on the festival’s FilmFreeway page at Tickets go on sale in spring. Prices are $30-$175 (non-members) and $25-$150 (members).
